West High School's proud tradition of excellence began in 1867 on the third floor of the old Stone School. The first class of five students was graduated in June 1870. From this modest beginning, West High has grown into a comprehensive high school of over 3000 students. Through the decades, West High has served the Aurora community by providing an outstanding high school experience for many generations of young adults. Currently, West High is recognized for the high quality for its academic, athletic, music, drama and co-curricular programs. Recent graduates are now attending outstanding colleges and universities across the United States. Athletic teams, music groups and other extra-curricular and co-curricular organizations representing West High are often ranked among the best in the State.

The students who attend West High School this year are also part of the school's proud tradition. It will be their responsibility, as students and as citizens of the West High School community, to maintain the levels of excellence and achievement established by previous students. This will be a challenge, but one that will make each student who participates a better and more capable person.
